Skinnarland Collection

The Skinnarland Collection houses more than 100 works of art of Knut Skinnarland and a replica of his studio in Rauland. Every year you can see new special exhibitions.
Place for children to be creative
Here children can make their own sculptures after they have been inspired by famous artists.
Aslak Svalastoga (1895-1970)
Subjects of daily life and poetry are repeated in Aslak Svalastogas many sculptures and reliefs. He was born in Rauland and he created art often with a social trend. Svalastoga was represented with sculptures of wood at the state-autumn exhibition. Additional to the Skinnarland Collection his works of art can be viewed at “Raulandhuset” and “Raulandsakademiet”.
Knut Skinnarland (1909-1993)
Knut Skinnarland was one of the best Norwegian sculpturs in his generation. He was born in Rauland. He visited the school of arts in Oslo.

From the year 1948 he was busy with the restoration of the Nidarosdom. As works of art we can name the “fiskarmonumentet” in Ålesund and in Akureyri at Iceland as well as the Monuments of A. O. Vinje and of Sondre Norheim.
Exhibition- Olav K Vaagen
In summer you can experience the artist Olav K Vaagen at the Skinnerland Collection. From the 25 June to the 9th August there is an exhibition which shows the work of the artist who was born and raised at Møsstrond

The whetstone quarry
Would you like to see the whetstone quarry or learn more about the history of the whetstone? In the summer the tourist trail is open with information boards and rest areas.

The movie about Sondre Norheim
In the movie “Frikaren på ski” you can see how Sondre revolutionized skiing and gave rise to modern ski sport. Words like Slalom, Telemark-landing and Telemark-turn have their origins in Morgedal and Telemark. The new skis you buy today are still built on Sondre`s principles.
