See Tveitenstoga on the move

What is 10 m long, weighs 90 tonnes and is out on a sleigh ride? NRK has made a report on the moving of ‘Tveitenstoga’ to Vest-Telemark Museum, Eidsborg

Here is a fine example of the traditional ‘telemarkstoge’ built on 2 levels. Built in 1780 by Lars Talleivsson Auversæker (the son of Talleiv Maalar). When the property was divided (ca. 1835) the son who was moving decided he wanted to take the building with him but as local mythology decreed it was unlucky to move a house he left 2 of the first floor beams behind on the property. These beams were left where they stood for over 100 years but when the building was moved to the museum grounds in 1972. The original beams were found and reunited again with the house.
Because of the new developments – Tveitenstoga had to be moved for a 3rd time – see a film clip from the moving process here.
